You must register with Know Your Landlord to become a landlord. Landlords are also offered training and rewards.

Know Your Landlord accreditation and awards

There are three levels of Know Your Landlord accreditation:

By demonstrating financial responsibility, and successfully passing spot checks, you earn accreditation.

Beyond basic accreditation, you can choose to undergo and pass ethical training, showcasing a commitment to treat tenants with respect, fairness, and integrity.

Reserved for those who truly excel in the realm of tenancy, this award celebrates landlords who consistently go above and beyond in their duties for their tenants.

The Outstanding Landlord Award*

Congratulations! If you have demonstrated outstanding service to your tenants, such as providing maintenance and updates beyond what is required, or offering additional services the minimum standards, Know Your Landlord, may recognise your efforts.

As an Outstanding Landlord, you:

  • Are recognised in the Outstanding Landlord Register

  • Get a special badge against your profile and listings across Know Your Landlord, FairEstate.com.au, and listing sites that use the KYL widget such as Within Reach Realty.

To receive an Outstanding Landlord Award, you will have to be nominated by a current tenant.

Compliance and spot checks*

Remember that any accreditation and recognitions you receive will be paused if you:

  • Fail spot checks, eg:

    • Have outstanding maintenance issues

  • Evict a tenant

  • Increase rent above normal ranges

  • Fail to disclose changes to circumstances.
